JANUARY, ONE-MONTH PROGRAM
Italian Literature and Culture
The Italian Literature and Culture Program is an intensive four-week program that we originally organized for Colby College in Maine. There is no minimum language requirement to access this course and students from any undergraduate or graduate program can take part for an introduction to Italian literature an culture. Every year in the month of January, students from different majors come to Verona and take a three credit course in modern and contemporary Italian fiction, through a close study of five authors whose work spans the 20th century. Readings include Silvia Bonucci’s Voices from a Time, Lia Levi’s The Jewish Husband, Elena Ferrante’s My Brilliant Friend, Antonio Tabucchi’s Pereira Declares: A Testimony, and Andrea Camilleri’s A Beam of Light. It includes field trips to Venice and Italian cultural centers around Verona, a visit to the Capitolare Library, as well as a cooking class and various group events and dinners in the center of Verona.
